I was watching a show on TV about modern day video games and how it’s effecting our world. One of the segments revolved around gaming competitions in Korea.
It seems that the game of choice for Koreans is “Starcraft”. These gamers make well over 100k a year, in a country where roughly 16k is the average. These game competitions can draw hundreds of thousands of people and they are broadcast on a 24 hour cable channel devoted to games. They actually have 2 channels that are devoted to games around the clock. They actually have teams that compete against each other head to head.
I am just amazed that they are so rabid about one game. Granted that Starcraft was a good game, but it’s pretty old. You’d think that they could expand their horizons a little bit and step into this decade.
